About the Role:
Reporting directly to Director of Engineering and Maintenance (New Jersey
Division), this position will be responsible for the development and execution of project plans related to plant wide manufacturing technology upgrades and installations as well as large scale facility improvement projects.
Your Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage and maintain up-to-date MS Project Timelines inclusive of all critical milestones, key interdependencies and resource constraints, applying appropriate project scheduling techniques.
- Collaborate with all impacted departments to validate project requirements, equipment specifications and solicit all approvals in accordance with Western’s Governance, Project Approval and Requisition approval levels.
- Communicating and collaborating with engineering staff, manufacturing staff, and external partners to coordinate design changes, production schedules, and project milestones.
- Managing project work and resources to achieve assigned goals and deliverables within budget and timeline.
- Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and providing regular updates on project status and progress.
- Proactively coordinate with Safety and Environmental team to ensure projects meet required regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all project team members and assigned contractors and vendor partners receive required safety training prior to the start of a project.
- Manage data collection and reporting related to assigned project targets and key metrics including budget tracking and reporting.
- Develop and manage any project managers assigned to you.
- Adhere to all safety and quality guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe working environment including but not limited to adhering to all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements, immediate incident reporting, and adherence to both Safety Cardinal Rules and Quality Cardinal Rules, among others.
- Promote, support, and enforce Western’s Safety, Quality, Governance, regulatory and ISO 9001 standards as they apply
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the team.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Previous experience leading projects in manufacturing or similar environments; some other relevant technical experience as follows:
- Experience with Processing Technology: chemical or energetic materials processing. Melt/pour, mix/cast/cure, extrusion, consolidation pressing, milling, drilling, grinding, assembly, test, and packaging, or other related processing or manufacturing experience.
- Mechanical Technology: materials selection, simple stress and strain analysis as it relates to machine design
- Control technology, including simplistic pneumatic and hydraulic control systems when applicable.
- Communications Experience: Assembly and detailed drawings, machine specifications, test plans and reporting, project planning, capital expenditure proposals, standard operating procedures, and customer correspondence on technical issues.
- Strong Analytical, Problem Solving, Delegation, Conflict Resolution, Motivational and Team Building skills.
- Excellent Interpersonal, Communication, Time Management and Self-Motivation skills.
- Proficient use of Microsoft office suite, including Microsoft Project (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project & Outlook).

- Technical engineering and design skills.
- Strong attention to detail, prioritization, strong sense of urgency and organization skills.
- Leadership experience and clear communications skills to lead projects, negotiate with external project partners and maintain open lines of communication and feedback with internal stakeholders.
What You Will Bring:
- Experience in a continuous process such as aluminum extrusion and production
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, chemical, manufacturing, or industrial Engineering
- Experience in a manufacturing engineering role, experience with aluminum casting, extrusion and fabrication processes is a plus.
- 5+ years of project management in a manufacturing environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a complex fast-paced manufacturing environment, managing multiple priorities.
